THE FILM - The first feature film of Lynch's career (he had completed three earlier shorts). An intensly personal film, the desription of the filming process could fill volumes. Production took over five years on the sets at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Initially financed by AFI, later money would come from Lynch doing odd jobs including a paper route. When finally released, the film made a slow and steady climb to cult status as the king of midnight shows. A bizarre, nightmarish combination of black and white images that reflects Lynch's personal fears. One of the most important films of the 1970's and arguably the most recognizeable cult film ever. Please see the IMDB for more information about the film. |

THE POSTERS - The funding for Eraserhead was minimal - posters for the initial midnight showings began to be produced at an unknown point by Libra Films. Small independant poster that are not standard one sheet size were produced. As the film ran for many years, it seems there are at least two printings of the original poster. (See the "US original" below for more details.) Of particular note, "Premiere" magazine recently named the original Eraserhead US poster one of the 50 Greatest Movie Posters ever! In addition to the US original, there were multiple re-releases in the US, and releases in foreign markets were sporadic and slow. Any original theatrical Eraserhead poster is very valuable - the most valuble of any Lynch poster. |
