"It's a neighborhood picture... It's more of a surface picture than Eraserhead - and it's in color and it's got cars in it!"

.- David Lynch on Blue Velvet

THE FILM - After the commercial and critical failure of Dune, producer DeLaurentiis was reluctant to comply with his contract with Lynch to produce another film, but Lynch was persistant. The failure of Dune had put DeLaurentiis in severe financial crisis (he would later go bankrupt). Serendipidously, he therefore asked Lynch to forego much of his salary. Lynch gladly agreed but only in return for full control of the film. This allowed Lynch to make his most personal film since Eraserhead. A resounding critical succes, Blue Velvet relaunched Lynch's career and garnered him his second Best Director Nomination. Check out the IMDB for more information on the film.

THE POSTERS - The perfect combination for a poster - a small underfunded production with subsequent critical and cult sucess. Unlike Dune, very little money was put forward for promotional advertising. A single style of US one sheet was produced and in limited quantities. (Be sure to check out the original artwork layouts used in this production process.) This makes a US Blue Velvet one-sheet one of the most valuable Lynch posters and one of the most collectible of all film posters from the 1980's. Be sure to look at the Polish, French, German, Czech and Italian posters.
